Fountain Court - NSW Parliament House

02 September - 23rd October 2025

Join us in celebrating the work of Bibi Barba, The Evolution of the Barba Women and Desert Flower – Polish Factor! An exhibition by acclaimed Aboriginal artist Bibi Barba, on display at the Reconciliation Wall.

Bibi Barba is a proud saltwater woman of Darumbal, Darkinjung, Cammeraygal, Gadigal and Yuin heritage. With an artistic career spanning more than 40 years, she has gained international recognition for her distinctive ‘Desert Flowers’ motif - abstract, flowing petals inspired by the stories of her grandmother. The exhibition also speaks to Barba’s ongoing fight for recognition and protection of Indigenous art.

The reference to “Polish Factor” acknowledges a significant chapter in her journey, when she discovered her Desert Flowers had been replicated without permission throughout a hotel in Poland. Her determined legal battle to reclaim authorship and rights was captured in the documentary Stolen in Poland, bringing global attention to the misappropriation of Aboriginal art and highlighting the need for stronger protection of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property.

Visit the free exhibition at NSW Parliament House on weekdays, 9am to 5pm from  2 September to 30 October 20255. Access is to the left of the building via the security gatehouse
